- 12/23/2008 - Hello everyone, and a Merry Christmas/Happy Near Year/Happy Holidays to all! Obviously I didn't get a new release of Freemed-YiRC out this year. And it's not likely that I will be doing so until after the new year. The reason being is as follows... the new foster care components (which make up a significant portion of the upgrade) have not been fully vetted by multiple agencies. They've been in use at one agency for over half a year now. However, they've only been tested for a few months at a second agency. During that time, there have indeed been some tweaking going on. Nothing major, and all very useful. In addition, I've been working very hard on the new Report Generator module. This module goes hand-in-hand with the new foster care components. We're currently trying to shoot for a late January initial roll-out of this new module at these two agencies. So, it looks like the next upgrade is going to be either late 1st quarter or maybe 2nd quarter of 2009. I was hoping to not have to wait so long, but I don't have the time myself to prepare smaller releases. I'm going to end up creating one big major upgrade release which will have the foster care and report generator components. It is also my hope, once these tasks are accomplished, to expand the use of FMYiRC during the course of 2009 and beyond, especially in light of the current negative economic situation. It's my firm belief that child caring agencies, especially in Ohio, can make great use of this product and enjoy many cost- and time-saving benefits from it during these trying times.
- 10/16/2008 - An early prototype has been created for the new Report Generator module. It will soon be in place to be reviewed by three agencies. In addition, work is continuing on the Freemed-YiRC V1.10 upgrade.
- 09/20/2008 - Testing is still in progress on the foster care components. I realize this was scheduled for July 1st, but it's not fully tested yet. Also, work is continuing on the Report Generator module, it is going to be a very large and dynamic module, which will encompass quite a few missing Freemed-YiRC reporting needs.
- 08/04/2008 - Updates:
- Testing of the new Foster Care components is now in full swing at a 2nd agency. It may still take some time before these components are completely tested.
- A replacement for the current user-based Calendar/Reminder System and group-based Group Calendar System is coming! This new module will have many requested features including much more advanced e-mail reminders for both users and groups. A migration utility will be provided to pull existing events from the existing systems.
- Work has begun again on the design phase of the new Report Generator module. Some work on this was done late last year, but was halted earlier this year due to lack of time and resources.
- 07/18/2008 - Hello everyone. Obviously Freemed-YiRC V1.10 has not been released as of yet. The new Foster Care components have not been fully tested at this point, and that is what is slowing down the process. Once these components have been tested by multiple agencies, we will expedite the release.
- 06/18/2008 - Much work has been done in regards to Freemed-YiRC V1.10! The biggest news is that there WILL be an upgrade for existing Freemed-YiRC V1.00 installations. I don't know if we'll make the July 1st timeline or not, but I am currently aiming for sometime in early/mid July. In addition, we're looking at solutions involving the use of VMWare. This is very new to me, so it's in early stages, but for those of you who prefer to run servers in VMWare, or are not familiar with Linux but can do VMWare, this may be quite helpful to you. More info to come...!
- 05/20/2008 - Hello Everyone. After much thought, the next official release of Freemed-YiRC will be Freemed-YiRC V1.10. A time-table is not currently set, although I would like to see this done before July 1st. It is currently planned that this release will include the following features:
- Bug Fixes from V1.00
- I would like to give a big thank you to to House of New Hope and The Twelve for taking the time to give bug reports. Because different agencies have different methods for doing things, they were able to provide a lot of feedback on the core of Freemed-YiRC, which will help everyone in the long run.
- Much-needed cleanup to the core code.
- Cleaner HTML output
- Reduction/Elimination of use of global variables (however, the individual modules will take a great deal of time)
- Preparation for PHP6 compatibility
- Resource (Foster Care) additions.
- While some of this is still being tested, the modifications to the core of Freemed-YiRC will be included in this release.
- Bug Fixes from V1.00
- 04/17/2008 - One agency is currently live with the new foster care additions to Freemed-YiRC and another is close to being ready. There is a third agency currently planning on phasing into Freemed-YiRC and I've had inquiries from a few others. The next major release of Freemed-YiRC will likely focus on the foster care additions. No timeline on that, as of yet. I may be getting some more man power in the near future and that should be very good for the project!
- 02/05/2008 - Work is progressing on the foster care additions to Freemed-YiRC. Once these additions have been completed and are being tested by several foster care agencies, a release date will be revealed for the next version of Freemed-YiRC.
- 12/12/2007 - Freemed-YiRC V1.00 HAS BEEN RELEASED - Seven years in the making!
- Thankfully I was able to make time to get this released early after all. However, due to time restraints, I was not able to create an upgrade package from Beta0.99. Please click the above link for more information.
- 12/06/2007 - Unfortunately I've gotten a bit busy and was not able to release V1.00 early as I had planned. Look out for it closer to the New Year or early January.
- 11/20/2007 - There are some exciting features lined for Freemed-YiRC (post V1.00). It may take a while before these new features make their way into an official release, but the following are currently already being developed and tested at several agencies:
- Foster Care Additions: As mentioned before, I've recently installed FMYiRC at two agencies in Ohio who do Foster Care. Previously, FMYiRC primarily focused on Residential Care. With new interest by agencies who do foster care, as well as Adoptive and Respite services, new functionality is being introduced to help cover the needs for data input and reporting in these areas!
- PDF creation: I've added a new option on the FMYiRC Universal Print Functions menu for the ability to create a PDF as well as the standard View and Print. This has been made possible thanks to the outstanding HTMLDOC project.
- Internet E-Mail: In addition to the creation of PDFs, it has been requested to add the ability to e-mail these (and other items) via Internet e-mail, directly from FMYiRC. This is being implemented thanks to the wonderful XPertMailer project.
- Integration with the OACCA Outcomes Data Project (ODP): I've recently started a new module for this. Although all the ODP tools have not yet stabilized, some elements, such as Ohio Scales, have and will be integrated into this module. This will be good for members of the ODP, as well as those looking to join, who are looking for software capable of doing Ohio Scales. Hence, the next item...
- Expansion of the existing Freemed-YiRC Ohio Scales module: Freemed-YiRC has had the capability for entering Ohio Scales for some time. Recently I've had conversation with Ohio Department of Mental Health, specifically relating to the Consumer Outcomes project. They would like to see more agencies to have the capability of generating more reports using Ohio Scales data, so I will be adding more reports to the FMYiRC Ohio Scales module.
- MySQL Database Replication Internet E-Mail Alerts: As mentioned previously, Freemed-YiRC uses the MySQL database which has a wonderful feature known as Database Replication which allows two servers to replicate or mirror database information in real-time between two (or more) servers. I've recently added functionality to FMYiRC which monitors this to ensure that replication is always working. If that connection stops, an Internet E-mail can be sent out (which can also be sent out to most cell phones in the form of a text message) to ensure a rapid response.
- 11/16/2007 - I have updated the Freemed-YiRC V1.00 Database Replication Setup Manual. It should now contain the necessary technical details to describe how to use two servers to mirror or replicate the Freemed-YiRC database for use in high-availability/redundant/fault-tolerant systems!
- 11/16/2007 - I have added a new document intended to help agencies who may interested in Freemed-YiRC. The Freemed-YiRC Planning and Implementation Guide
- 11/16/2007 - I have begun work on prepping Freemed-YiRC V1.00 for it's release. The wait time between the release of Freemed-YiRC Beta0.99 and now has been used to ensure Freemed-YiRC Beta0.99 has been tested at multiple locations and to see if there were any glaring faults or errors. That time was well spent and should make Freemed-YiRC V1.00 a very good product. Quite a few bugs were fixed and some new features were added along the way. I hope to get Freemed-YiRC V1.00 released within the next few weeks!
- 10/30/2007 - The release of Freemed-YiRC V1.00 is growing closer. Recently I have branched the Freemed-YiRC source code, creating a separate code base for Freemed-YiRC V2.00 related work. What does this mean? As of now, only bug fixes and important feature additions will be made to the Freemed-YiRC V1.00 code. Since the release of Beta0.99 there have been a number of bug fixes as well as feature additions. This means that Freemed-YiRC V1.00 is nearly ready for an official release. For those interested in the project, please, feel free to download and install Freemed-YiRC Beta0.99 - the current release. When Freemed-YiRC V1.00 is ready, I will release an upgrade patch to bring all current Beta0.99 users to V1.00. At that point, there will be no more V1.00 updates unless there are major bug fixes.
- 10/11/2007 - I've started a new article on this Wiki titled Road to FMYiRC V2.00. In this article I'm going to detail possible ideas and new modules to be included in Freemed-YiRC after V1.00. Freemed-YiRC V2.00 will include much new functionality related to Foster Care, Respite Care, and Adoption oriented agencies. I've decided not to include this new functionality in Freemed-YiRC V1.00 because the goal of V1.00 is to produce a stable product for Residential Care agencies using the existing code. There is no timeline set for V2.00 as the focus right now is on making V1.00 stable. Please see the artcle for more information!
- 10/11/2007 - Since Freemed-YiRC Beta0.99 was released, I've had quite a few conversations with other agencies who have expressed interest in using Freemed-YiRC. What I've found is that most non-profit child caring agencies do not have the resources to install and test Freemed-YiRC on their own due to a number of factors. Time is always a factor (i.e., being able to spend staff time reviewing the software, when there is always other work to be done as well) as well as the fact that Freemed-YiRC is Linux based and most agencies are using Windows. If you are potentially interested in using Freemed-YiRC at your agency, and would like a kickstart, please feel free to contact me! Also, remember there is a live demo available on this site to check it out without having to install it.
- 10/11/2007 - Hello everyone. Testing of Freemed-YiRC Beta0.99 is continuing. Having the software now installed at multiple locations has helped to identify and fix several bugs. In addition, several of the sites testing Freemed-YiRC are involved with Foster Care. Those agencies have contributed very valuable feedback which will result in making Freemed-YiRC more applicable to Foster Care as well as Respite Care and adoption. This feedback will help make Freemed-YiRC V1.00 a better product for all.
- 09/12/2007 - Testing is still in full swing. In addition, more documentation has been added to the Freemed-YiRC Documentation Index, and a link to the index has been added to the Freemed-YiRC Documentation page.
- 08/14/2007 - Testing of Freemed-YiRC Beta0.99 is going well. It has been installed at two additional agencies in Ohio for evaluation testing. Several minor bugs have been fixed as well. Additionally, there is interest in adding foster care functionality/modules to Freemed-YiRC (including foster care specific Service Plans and progress notes).
